Former President of WMKA Mr. Yasuharu Makishi, hanshi 10th Dan. Makishi Sensei passed away at the age of 73. He was an incredible martial artist and great advocate of Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate. Makishi Sensei was a loyal and devout student of Shoshin Nagamine, and an amazing karate-ka, his skills and technical knowledge were amazing. He worked as president of the WMKA under Soke Nagamine until Soke’s passing.
Makishi Sensei’s performance of Kusanku is beyond words, you can find his demonstration of Kusanku online. Sensei Makishi made this difficult kata look effortless and beautiful, while showing how incredibly powerful it truly is, his movement and snapping motions were remarkable. Makishi Sensei taught at his home, his living room was his home dojo away from the Hombu dojo, he was a traditionalist and his love for Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu showed when he spoke about Matsubayashi and in his demonstrations.
